Balance of Payments

The balance of payments of Montenegro is a statistical statement that summarizes transactions between residents and nonresidents during a period. Pursuant to the Law on the Central Bank of Montenegro („Official Gazette of Montenegro“ no. 40/10, 46/10 and 6/13), Law on Official Statistics and Statistical System (“Official Gazette of Montenegro”, no 18/12) and the Law on Current and Capital Operations with Abroad („Official Gazette of Republic of Montenegro“ no. 45/05 and „Official Gazette of Montenegro“ no. 62/08,40/11,62/13 ), the Central Bank of Montenegro compiles Balance of payments of Montenegro. Pursuant to the aforesaid laws and the Decision on Statistical Data to Be Submitted to the Central Bank for the Purpose of Compilation of the Balance of Payments („Official Gazette of Montenegro“ no. 61/12) and Decision on keeping separate records on foreign current and capital transactions and their reporting (“Official Gazette of Montenegro” no 8/17), the Central Bank of Montenegro collects and compiles data required for the balance of payments statistics. These data are published quarterly, in euros. The balance of payments of Montenegro is compiled in accordance with the new IMF methodology (IMF Balance of Payments Manual, 6th edition, 2009) and EU regulations in area of balance of payments statistics.

Announcement: Since June 2014, data on balance of payments statistics have been being compiled in accordance with the new IMF methodology BPM6. In accordance with the new statistical standards, the standard presentation scheme of balance of payments is changed, as well as the presentation of the financial account which is shown on the principle of the net acquisition of financial assets and the net incurrence of liabilities.
