Fourth CBCG Council Meeting Held

Central Bank of Montenegro Council held its fourth meeting today, chaired by the Governor, Radoje Žugić, PhD.

The Council adopted the Governor`s Report on Central Bank of Montenegro Business Activities and Policy Implementation in December 2016, stating that all Central Bank activities in this period have been implemented in accordance with the scheduled duties defined by the 2016 Central Bank Working Program. The Council examined and evaluated the impact of potential risks in the macroeconomic environment within financial system to financial stability condition and found the financial system as being stable and the systemic risk level as moderate.

The Council adopted the Decision on keeping special records on foreign current and capital transactions and proving data on those to the Central Bank of Montenegro. This Decision, compared to the present legal solution, increases the volume of data and introduces electronic reporting on a quarterly basis. This way will simplify the manner of providing data, contribute to the increase of data quality for the need of compiling country balance of payment, as well as to the  implementation of regulation and meeting the requirements from Chapter 18 – Statistics.

The Council also discussed other issues under its competence.

CBCG joined the humanitarian aid for treatment of Selena Mandić

Central Bank of Montenegro joined the humanitarian aid for treatment of three-year-old girl Selena Mandić and made a donation in the amount of EUR 2,000.

Governor Žugić received the OTP Bank Management

The Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro, Radoje Žugić, PhD, and his associates received OTP Bank plc delegation from Budapest today, headed by Phd Šandor Čanji, Bank President and CEO. The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Novo Radović, also attended the meeting.

Representatives of the OTP Bank informed the Central Bank Governor about the further strategic plans of the OTP Bank in the Montenegrin banking market. Readiness of the Bank to route its presence in the banking system towards further development and improvement in its services quality, at the same time providing an adequate support to the economy and retail banking has been emphasized.

Governor Žugić pointed out to the fact to the fact Crnogorska Komercijalna Bank as a part of OTP Group has a significant role in Montenegrin banking system, also expressing his belief that it has capacity for further development, having in mind the size and share of the Bank in the market. He also mentioned the need for continuous exchange of information between Central Bank and OTP Bank which have the function of creating possibility for stable business activities, in line with the international and local regulatory framework.

CBCG Governor Meets the Hipotekarna Bank Management

The Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro, Radoje Žugić, PhD, and his associate met today with Miljan Todorović, the owner of Hipotekarna Bank AD Podgorica.

Governor Žugić informed Mr Todorović about the current trends in the banking sector and emphasized the need for a permanent operational cooperation with commercial banks. He expressed his satisfaction with the fact that banks stand ready and open to continually exchange views on any open issues relating to banks’ future strategic plans and development of the banking system.

Mr Todorović informed the Governor about the state of play and the position of Hipotekarna Bank in the banking sector, but also about the Bank’s future development plans. He commended the professional attitude of the Central Bank in its role as the regulator and supervisor of the banking system. He emphasized Hipotekarna Bank is committed to further contribute to the stabilization and security of the system, while strengthening at the same time the capital basis, as well as to the expansion of the banking services and range of products offered in the market, in full compliance with the banking standards.

Governor Žugić expressed his support for the Bank strategies and spoke positively of the Bank’s role in the system, while also expressing his support to the Bank’s plans for future growth based on the observance of the security principle.

CBCG Governor received Ambassador of Slovakia to Montenegro

Central Bank of Montenegro Governor, Mr Radoje Žugić, PhD, met his excellency, the ambassador of Slovakia to Montenegro, Mr Roman Hloben in Podgorica today. 

Governor Žugić pointed out the importance of Slovakia support in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro, especially during the period of Slovak presidency of the European Union.

Banking system, current economic situation in Montenegro and Slovakia, as well as global economic perspectives were discussed at the meeting. The CBCG importance as one of the institutions having a key role in both economic policy of Montenegro and in meeting economic and financial criteria set out for Montenegro by the EU was emphasized.

The interest to further strengthen financial and economic cooperation as well as foster future joint projects was expressed during friendly and constructive discussions.

Governor Žugić received the Prva Banka AD Podgorica Management

The Central Bank of Montenegro Governor, Radoje Žugić, PhD, and his associates met today with Tarik Telaćević, CEO of Prva banka AD Podgorica. Current situation and trends in financial and banking sector in Montenegro were discussed at the meeting as well as the role of Prva banka.

Governor Žugić pointed out in his introductory speech that CBCG is open for continuous and intensive communication with the banks with the aim of reaching mutual interest, specifically in terms of strengthening the banking system and preserving financial stability. 

Mr Telaćević presented the situation in Prva banka to the management as well as the basic parameters of business, vulnerabilities and modalities for their resolving. It was concluded that the bank meets prescribed parameters and that will, with certain restrictions, alongside other banks, contribute to creating stable and sound banking system in the upcoming period.

Governor Žugić concluded that CBCG leads a proactive policy with the aim of having well capitalized, sound and viable banking system, emphasizing the importance of each individual bank. Continuation of an intensive cooperation on operational level and full support to the scheduled activities of Prva banka under the of competences of CBCG has been announced.
