Money Museum

By opening of the Money Museum on 11 April 2012, the Central Bank of Montenegro initiated a long-term project that aims to preserve and retain the historic and cultural heritage in the field of numismatic values in Montenegro.

The building where Money Museum is located is the building of the Central Bank of Montenegro in Cetinje (former Montenegrin bank founded in 1906) and represents an extraordinary architectural solution that represents cultural monument under the state protection. Former counters, vault and other facilities in this building are converted into an exhibition space which provides visitors with an opportunity to experience Montenegro as a country that belongs to the countries with a long national and European tradition.

The Central Bank of Montenegro has a duty to collect, preserve and present numismatic and other monetary items, so that the Money Museum has an invaluable cultural and historical value for our country.

Money Museum is located in the centre of Cetinje, Njegoševa Street, and is not a traditional or institutional museum, but a special museum within the Central Bank. The intention of the Central Bank of Montenegro is its accessibility to the public and creation of a specific exhibition and educational space, which, in addition to the basic museum exhibition, contains also supporting educational and interactive contents. Occasional and visiting exhibitions are planned and organized. The objective of the Central Bank of Montenegro is to raise the general level of public knowledge about the role of the Central Bank in the society, and about its role in all other financial aspects.
